Matt Berry never considered taking the X Factor voiceover job: ‘F**k that’

Whether it’s his comedy creation Steven Toast, his almost-avant-garde BBC shorts or his Absolute Radio domination, Matt Berry has one of the most distinctive voices around right now.

But would he have ever considered the X Factor voiceover job? Especially after Peter Dickson announced his (brief) departure earlier this year? Well, no is the answer.

“I think it was bandied about, but I never got involved in any of that,” he told Digital Spy.

“I wouldn’t have considered it. I’ve never seen the show, but it’s not the kind of thing I watch or would be interested in.”

When told that he would probably have to record his lines every week, he added: “Is that the case? Oh, f**k that.”

Peter Dickson originally intended to quit The X Factor this year, but was convinced by producers to return for the Live Shows. Legendary voiceover artist Redd Pepper introduced the contestants for the live Judges’ Houses episodes.

Matt Berry returns for the third series of Channel 4’s Toast of London on Wednesday (November 18) at 10pm. Watch a trailer below:
