Traffic App Has New Voiceover Talent and Here’s a Hint: The Trip Will End With …

Fifty million people use Waze to avoid traffic and estimate their trip time. The Google-owned app uniquely uses crowd-sourced data from drivers to constantly update conditions. One option is to have an audible voice give you instructions, just like most other driving apps do.

But starting on Monday, drivers will be able to choose to have the Terminator telling them when to turn.

Arnold Schwarzenegger spent an hour in a voice studio laying down tracks of basic “turn left” or “turn right” directions, as part of a promotion with Paramount Studios. Schwarzenegger appears in the most recent installment of the Terminator franchise, “Terminator Genisys” which releases on July 1st.

Commenting to USA Today about the recording session, he said that he purposefully emphasized his now-iconic accent. He said this:

“It is an added entertainment. Where I come in, I’m bringing the Arnold twist.. Even in the recording studio, people were laughing at every single line when I put the Arnold spin on it.

Here we are 40 years later and my accent is a big asset. It’s what people enjoy. When I dreamt of a career, I had no idea that one day I would be telling 50 million drivers (where) to drive.

Only in America.”

And yes, every trip will conclude with “Hasta la vista, baby.”
